The 40 Songs on the Stonewall Jukebox, June 1969

As I mentioned in my post on “Dance on Skin,” the jukebox was one of The Stonewall Inn’s most electric features, drawing a lively, unapologetically mixed crowd to this Christopher Street refuge. Motown ruled the rotation, filling the room with grooves that were equal parts celebration and defiance. Listening to these songs, you could feel the pulse of bodies moving together, the heat rising, and the air thick with sweat and perfume. Feet tapped, hips swayed, and the energy bounced off the walls and ceiling, an almost tangible current running through the crowded room.

The music of the Stonewall Inn jukebox became more than a soundtrack. It shaped the spirit of the final Christopher Street fragrance. Amid centuries of New York City history, these rhythms offered a clear path, telling an olfactive love story of queer resilience, courage, and the uncontainable vitality of Christopher Street. Spray the fragrance into the air, press play, and let your senses carry you into that crowded, humming room, alive with movement, laughter, sweat, and life.

One omission from the original track listing:
Get Back (Jo Jo) by Paul McCartney & The Beatles – Beatles tracks are currently unavailable on Spotify.
