The Olfactive Narrative of Asphalt Rainbow

A Rose Undone

Following the successful launch of Christopher Street, Charenton Macerations returns to the city streets, this time merging our disruptive approach to perfumery with the defiance-driven world of outdoor street art.

Inspired by graffiti’s power to distort perception and evolve with time, Asphalt Rainbow is a fragrance that uncorsets the rose. Torn petals and thorns scatter across the urban landscape, fragmented and reassembled against concrete and asphalt.

This perfume is, quite literally, a rose undone.

Asphalt Rainbow asks a simple question: what happens when a graffiti artist’s spray cans, inks, and paints are replaced with the perfumer’s organ of unguents, resins, and oils, and applied directly to the skin?

Borrowing from the masterful techniques of street artists including process, planning, and materials, the fragrance explores the beauty of olfactory distortion. Familiar ingredients are bent, fractured, and recomposed, refusing to sit prettily or behave as expected. A rose undone becomes a rose alive. Raw. Defiant. Unapologetically its own.

Asphalt Rainbow is a rose unleashed: graffiti in motion, written on skin.

Petals shattered. Paint sprayed. Skin becomes canvas.

“I love working in the memory of spaces. Every space in the world keeps a trace of what’s happened before, and when I get to a space, I feel deeply what’s happened there as if I have a supernatural relation to the past.”

What's in a Rose?

Crafting Asphalt Rainbow took two years of building olfactory walls, roughing them up, and then tearing them down. We intercepted the classic rose, splashing it with thick pastes, pungent paints, and potent outdoor spoils, calibrating each layer to twist, shift, and decay its structure over time.

The fragrance moves like a freshly applied street art tag, a bold, fractured rose accord that morphs and cracks as it climbs walls and winds down alleyways, until it drifts, a ghost of color and scent across the cityscape.
