The Story of Eye, Hatshepsut

Eye, Hatshepsut is an olfactory homage to one of history’s most extraordinary gender rebels. Pharaoh, warrior, and visionary, Hatshepsut rewrote the narrative of her rule, leaving a mythic legacy carved into the temple walls of Dayr al-Bahri.

To the ancient Egyptians, fragrance was the breath of the gods. It was the unseen presence of the divine. Eye, Hatshepsut draws from that belief, invoking the Eye of Ra, the celestial gaze of her divine father, and a symbol of protection, creation, and renewal.

On the skin, lotus and iris drift through resinous traces of kohl and kyphi, illuminated by the quiet warmth of tallow and grounded in crystalline Saharan sands. Built with a high volume of known anosmic materials, the composition echoes the nature of ancient memory itself — partially hidden, fractured by time, and revealed differently to each wearer.

What seems simple at first slowly reveals deeper layers, like fragments of ritual and history emerging from the desert, never fully unearthed, yet never entirely lost.

Crafted in collaboration with perfumer Cecile Hua (Mane USA). Special thanks to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, Cairo, for assistance in navigating their collections.

Each bottle is housed with dried patchouli, a tactile keepsake — an aromatic remnant meant to linger quietly among drawers, garments, and the small rituals of daily life.
