2014 Art & Olfaction Independent Finalist: Charenton Macerations Christopher Street

Charenton Macerations is excited to announce that Christopher Street has been named as a Finalist in the Independent Category for the 2014 Art and Olfaction Awards. Competing alongside some of the top independent brands across the globe, and judged on olfactive impression alone, it is beyond humbling to receive such an incredible honor. Thanks to everyone who has helped support the story of Christopher Street over the past year, as none of this would have ever been possible without you. And big congratulations to all of this year’s fragrance finalists. Looking forward to celebrating with everyone in Los Angeles on April 25th.

About The Art and Olfaction Awards

Art and Olfaction Awards Logo

The Art and Olfaction Awards celebrate creativity, innovation and excellence in global independent and artisan perfumery. They accomplish this through an annual judged award in two categories, launching their first annual awards ceremony in Los Angeles on April 25, 2014. By specifically focusing on independent and artisan perfumers, the Art and Olfaction Awards hopes to generate support for independent practice in perfumery, as a whole.

The Art and Olfaction Awards is a program of The Institute for Art and Olfaction, and is produced in partnership with Lucky Scent, Scent Bar, L’Artisan Parfumeur, The Goethe Institut, The Standard Hotel, Beski Projekts, AutumnSeventy, Odelab, The Fragrant Man, and Fragrantica.

In its inaugural year, the Art and Olfaction Awards received submissions from 14 countries on five continents. The Awards’ preliminary judges spent three weeks smelling and scoring the submissions in blind vials. The scores were tallied and averaged, and the ten top scorers in each category were selected as finalists, moving on to the second round of judging.

Diverse in inspiration (from ripe blackberries to bathhouses, ancient emperors to New York City streets), the perfumes represented nonetheless all share several very crucial qualities: inventiveness in intention, quality in execution, and excellence across the board. Winners will be announced in each category at the 2014 Art and Olfaction Awards on April 25, 2014 at the Goethe Institut in Los Angeles.

Christopher Street by Charenton Macerations

Christopher Street Fragrance

The paths of merchants and misfits, beatniks and bohemians, dissidents and protestors all converge on the West Village’s Christopher Street. Reflecting that quintessential spirit of rugged rebellion synonymous with New York City activism, Christopher Street combines classic floral chypre elements with darker, more subversive flourishes, challenging traditional olfactive notions of gender and form. Crafted in collaboration with Ralf Schwieger of Mane USA.
